derry came out of the blocks the quicker and were soon 2 tries to the good, and the ref was in danger of penalising strabane off the pitch, but once our lads got the bit between their teeth the game totally changed. we started to pick and drive and scored 2 very good tries through rossi and bap in quick succession. the ref then blew for halftime, which derry were very thankful for as it was one way traffic at this stage.
the strong performance continued in the second half, and a well weighted chip from gary in the outhalf slot saw jimmy win the race for the touchdown and gary converted to leave the score 17 - 12. another penalty shortly after stretched the lead to a relatively safe 8 points but we then relaxed and allowed derry back into the game and they got a consolation score at the death to leave the final score 20 - 17 to the lifford rd outfit
the whole team played with real heart, determination and no little skill. this good victory finishes their season on a high ( with limavady not expected to field ) and there were some very encouraging performances that the watching firsts will do well to remember when they consider resting on their laurels . well done. |
